Another nice tobacco jar from a collection of treen we purchased from here in Connecticut. Wonderful turnings and patina. Probably lignum vitae, difficult to say definitively due to highly polished surface. Knob on lid appears to be original, wood in contrast to jar. Measures approximately 7 1/2" tall, 4 1/2" diameter.

Wonderful primitive tidy. Late 17th/early 18th century, never painted, appears at some point someone applied a varnish. Column is mortised into base and fastened with a long tenon. All original, top base as seen in photos has a rim that was worn down with age. The top is a smaller size 3" diameter with inner portion just barely 2 1/2". The 17th c. brass betty in photo is not included. The tidy being 3 pieces does have some play between bottom column and base. Measures 8 1/4" tall, bottom base 4 3/4" x 5 1/2".

Early fire rattle or grogger. Early 19th century used as alarm in streets to warn of fire. Great patina. Similar to grogger used by Jews at Purim. From our collection we purchased in Hudson Valley NY years ago. Wonderful wrought iron tabletop rushlight or Peerman. 18th century, great surface on a circular base and semi twist stem. On the base are 2 small areas where it appears the blacksmith stamped openings probably to use nails to secure to surface, a third area appears to not be totally stamped through the iron. Nice pair of leather bound books. The larger one is Transformation or The Romance of Monte Beni by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Nice photos, rare to find them in book from this age, published 1860. I n overall good condition, shows its age as expected, binding intact. measures 6 3/8' x 4 1/2". The smaller book is Italian, Chateaubriand Studj. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it is, published in1836. Also in overall good condition, but shows its age, binding intact, measures 3 1/2' x5 1/4"
